Flying Lotus threw a new track up on his Soundcloud yesterday, and similar to everything else he’s ever done, its pretty spectacular. An off-time cacophony of clicks and clacks and heavy bass mix with some fuzzy synths to make a very stylish track. Check it out below.
Even though summer ended a while back, groovy and beachy summer tunes must continue! Bleached is sister Jennifer and Jessie Clavin, who have a new 7” coming out in a week on Dec 6 via Sucide Squeeze Records. Check out the b-side of said 7” “Electric Chair”, which is a fuzzy and fun pop-punk jam. If you were a fan of Yuck’s self-titled release earlier this year, be sure to check this out.
Go grab yourself a copy of the 7” “Searching Through the Past” over at Suicide Squeeze
Maybe its just me, but pretty much every video player except for youtube and vimeo are the most difficult things to work with, and it consistently screws up the posts I try to make. How hard can it be to make a video embeddable? Whatever…
What’s up y’all, since there isn’t much going on music-wise recently, I put together this beaut of a playlist for you to enjoy. It basically features a bunch of tracks I love, which I think you will love too. Most of them are from the last couple weeks of releases, with a couple older ones thrown in there. The tracklist is below.
The list isn’t numbered, so it may be in any order.
The Dodo’s already made one of my lists so far this year with their great full length No Color, which came out on French Kiss. They just released a new Mp3 that wasn’t featured on the album for free download. The single features the same great guitar work and catchy vocal melodies that made No Color such a triumph. All you have to do is exchange your email address.
Back in late October, Adam Granduciel and the guys from The War on Drugs took a trip over to Daytrotter to bang out a few tracks off of their amazing 2011 release Slave Ambient. They even combine the songs “Best Night” and “I Was There” into one amazing 12 minute masterpiece.
I meant to post this a couple days ago, but either way all of you need to check out this new project from one of my most loved artists of 2011 so far, Nicholas Jaar. He has joined forces with guitarist Dave Harrington to create this beautiful little EP under the name Darkside. An appropriate name once you listen to these slow, dark and ethereal tracks.
In case anyone out there isn’t aware yet, dub “wunderkind” James Blake will be releasing his third release of 2011, Love What Happened Here on December 11 via . So far two of the tracks off the EP have been heard: “Curbside” as well as the title track “Love What Happened Here”. The third and final installment of this EP comes with “At Birth”, a song that goes closer to Blake’s 2010 sound, with manipulated samples as well as those smooth synths that he normally uses. Check the newest track “At Birth” below.
Also, since I didn’t post them before, check out the other two tracks coming off this EP below as well.
I’m not 100% on the deal with this certain track, but from what I can gather Gold Panda does a little remix work on his own track. “An Iceberg Hurled Northward Through Clouds” was released a little while back as a single, and was recently featured on the DJ Kicks mix that Gold Panda whipped up.
Either way, Gold Panda’s work is not something to pass up, even if its him remixing himself. Check out “Through Clouds” below, as well as the original “An Iceburg Hurled Northward Through Clouds”.
A little while back I posted about Machester’s Star Slinger releasing his first official single “Dumbin”. The single was released through GreenLabelSound, and now Mad Decent mastermind Diplo has gotten his hand on the track. He takes what was a soulful pop jam as the original, and adds some club atmosphere to the track to make it all the more danceable. Check out the remix, as well as the original below.
Don’t be thrown off, click the “buy this track” button to get a free download.
We’ve been meaning to post more Daytrotter sessions weekly, and I swear I’ll start keeping up with it eventually, since there are always good things happening over there. RX Bandits recently visited the studio and recorded a 5 song session, which is available for streaming over at Daytrotter.
Also, something Daytrotter has posted recently is asking for donations to keep the site going. It’s only $2 a month, so it is totally worth it for all this live music. You can donate and create yourself a membership HERE
Blackbird Blackbird remains one of my favourite artists right now with his whistful, dreamy electro-pop attitude. Almost every track by the artist hits you in a different way, and his remixes are always surprisingly original. He has a new remix for us, this time for another one of my favourite artists: Keep Shelly in Athens, a group that takes indie and pop to a much deeper level. It’s no surprise that when Mikey Maramag (Blackbird Blackbird) remixes one of these tracks its incredible.
Maybe its just getting easier for bands and artists to have multiple releases in a year, because it seems to be happening a lot. The music world is exploding with talent, and i love it.
Crystal Stilts released their Sophomore LP In Love With Oblivion earlier this year, which I loved, and even threw on our Top Releases of 2011(so far). The New York group has put their second release of 2011, an EP titled Radiant Door up for stream today. Check it out in all its glory below.
