Chicago’s hip hop/rap duo The Cool Kids are back with another fresh track. Maybe it’s just the style of rap that I’ve been gravitating towards the past couple years, but with young guns like the boys in OFWGKTA and these guys bringing original style back to the game, it’s definately something else. It’s hard not to like these guys with such relaxed, but properly thought out rhythms and lyrics. Check out The Cool Kids newest “Bundle Up”, and download it if you like what you hear.
I can’t say I know much about this Irish electronic outfit, but what I can certainly say is that it is some mesmerizing stuff. I wont go to far into detail, since I feel like I say almost the same thing for every song within the whole “electronica” genre. Plus, I guess it’s good not to have too much of a musical bias before giving something a try. So, try away!
As a bonus I added the equally charming music video, and their calming remix of Passion Pit’s “Little Secrets”
San Francisco’s indie rock troupe The Dodos are just finishing their newest LP which has been in the works for quite a while now. After the release of 2008’s Visitor LP, the group has definately made their mark across the North American landscape to say the least. They have released two of the new tracks so far, and both are living up to their glory. Check out the singles “Black Night” and “Don’t Stop” here.
“No Color” is set for a March 15 release on Frenchkiss Records
Any fans of the TV series Community in the house? Well Donald Glover plays Troy on the show, and he is also a writer for the show 30 Rock, aswell as multiple other comedic gigs. Aside from all of that, he also raps under the moniker Childish Gambino. His most recent track is called Freaks n Geeks, and he clearly has a gift for words. Listen and Download the track below.
San Francisco group Set Your Goals have released this new single that didn’t make it onto their last full length album. The song features some vocal work from New Found Glory’s Jordan Pudnik, so give it a listen and download here.
I’ve been meaning to post about Beach Fossils, aka Dustin Payseur of Brooklyn. I first found his single “Youth” over a year ago, and the calmed, echoing riffs instantly caught my ear. He has recorded a new EP, which is set for a February 22nd release. For this track, he teamed up with Jack Tatum (aka. Wild Nothing) to bring his aesthetic just a bit further. Listen and download the track below, and grab the EP in a week when it comes out.
Teams has joined forces with Star Slinger for this latest EP released just over a week ago. It’s loaded with plenty of samples, and always a groovy beat to go down with it. Listen and download the track “Punch Drunk Love” here, and grab the EP if it’s up your alley.
Noise rockers Young Widows are back with a fresh track that will be featured on their new full length album this year. No release date has been announced yet, but this single “Future Heart” was released by the band. Give it a listen and download here.
Noah Lennox has announced the release of his newest record “Tomboy” for sometime later this year under his project Panda Bear. He has stated however, that he will be releasing singles slowly throughout the year. To start it off after “Atiba Song” which was only featured in a skateboard video, Panda Bear recently released this single “Last Night at the Jetty”. Give it a listen and download, and keep yours eyes open for more singles!
LA songwriter Will Weisenfeld dropped one heck of an album last year under his Baths moniker. “Cerulean” did not make the beat farm’s top 30 list, but it was definately very close. By bringing together largely contrasting samples, and layering it with slightly offtime (but very amazing) drum and percussion work, he has truly found a unique sound.
He recently released this single “The Nothing” from his upcoming March 1st release “Nothing/ Nightly Daily” on Anticon.

Chiddy Bang is back with some fresh material for everyone. “Rebel” is their newest chop, which holds the same laid back style that Chiddy Bang does best. They have announced a new record for 2011, “Peanut Butter and Swelly”, which has not been given a release date yet. Either way, grab this funky track.

In high anticipation for their Double LP being released this year, Massachusetts Defeater has recently released a 2 song EP on Bridge Nine. This is a clear foreshadowing of their upcoming release, “Empty Days, Sleepless Nights” with one group track as well as one acoustic track. If this short EP is a look into what Defeater will unleash this year, it has gotten me more stoked. Give the two songs a listen, and download the single “Dear Father” here. Head to B9 and grab yourself a copy of the vinyl before they sell out if you dig the tunes!

This groovy track is by Jeremiah Vancans, more commonly known as just Vancans. His debut LP should be released sometime this year, but no date has been set. For now check out this smooth beat featuring the vocal stylings of Nina Simone, and be on the lookout for more from this guy in the near future.
Coming out of GTA, Ontario, Oui Party is a solo project by Sean Andernacht. He recently spent the fall and summer seasons recording and mastering the EP at Chemical Studios in Toronto, and has made it available for purchase as of last week. The 7 song EP starts with a real hook of an opening track, Education. With a steady, groovy rhythm, and Sean’s soothing vocals to complete it, it’s the perfect introduction into the sound of Oui Party. As the album progresses however, the mood moves as he brings in more intruments and vocals, which works very well. The album interludes with the track “If I was Wrong, I wouldn’t Know”, which is a calmed, soothing track, and then proceeds to play the 2 most encapsulating songs on the album. The tracks Wax and Spinners have quite the range of emotion between them, but that is what makes Oui Party such an interesting sound.
Give the single “Spinners” a listen above, and be sure to support the artist and buy the album if you like what you hear!
The album is available on ITunes, Bandcamp, Myspace, Amazon MP3, and CBC Radio 3. Search Oui Party to purchase.
Bassnectar has done a superb job of reworking this track by the elegant Ellie Goulding. It keeps the original song structure for the most part, but is made more epic with the blasting bass and synth delivered by Bassnectar. Listen and download the track below.
Alexander Ebert, the lead man of Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros has recently released a single from his solo album “Alexander”. After a first listen, it’s everything you would want from Alexander, and maybe a little more. It has up’s, it has down’s, but overall a definite good track. Give the track “Million Years” a listen and download here, and grab the album when its out if you like what you hear.
“Alexander” is set for release on March 1st on Community Music
The Pains of Being Pure at Heart are back, but with a track that evolves on the previously accepted sound from the bands 2009 hit releases. This track “Belong”, features more distortion than any other previous song from the group and to be honest, it really works. Give the single a listen below.
Their next album “Belong” is set to be released on March 29th on Slumberland Records. Get Stoked.
The one and only Lupe Fiasco has released this fresh new track featuring the beautiful harmonies of Skylar Grey. His newest album “Lasers” is set to be released March 8th, so give this great single “Words” a listen for the time being.
Sweden’s ceo is Eric Berglund, who was formerly known for being part of the duo The Tough Alliance. Under the ceo moniker, Berglund released this album last year and it became very popular among the electronic/chillwave/whatever you want to call it scene. Keeping a unique and addictive sound from start to finish, this is definately an album worth checking out. Listen to the track Illuminata here, and grab this excellent album if you can.
