Philadelphia’s Chiddy Bang have come back with another bumping mixtape for everyone out there. The mixtape is certainly another step forward for this great duo, with verry tight sampling, and obviously great raps. It’s obvious that this duo is going places withing the industry. Not only can they sample very well, but they apply recent samples, like Matt and Kims “Cameras” in the first track. If you haven’t hopped on the Chiddy Bang bandwagon yet, get on it; your missing out. The tracklist of the mixtape is below
Toronto’s The Weeknd has been turning a lot of heads this year with his amazing free mixtape “House of Balloons”. The artist released word recently that he will be debuting two other mixtapes in 2011. Not only does this mean we get even more great tracks from this passionate R&B singer, but we get a lot more.
He has released one full mp3 titled “Rolling Stone” which is another great slow delivery of this artists lyrical genius. Aside from “Rolling Stone” which is available for download below, the Toronto local realeased 6 other unreleased tracks. Listen to all of them below to get a glimpse of whats to come from this great artist.
Minus the Bear have released a free EP of some great live recordings from their newest album “Omni”. The songs “Into the Mirror”, “My Time” and a few others are on the EP as well as the single “Hold Me Down”.
You can grab the EP for free with the exchange of your email address below.
Thundercat has just released a new single which will be featured on his forthcoming LP entitled “The Golden Age of Apocalypse”. Aside from Thundercat’s amazing voice, this whole LP has been produced by L.A. beatsmith Flying Lotus, who released two great albums last year.
The song starts with some soft and subtle production, and eventually builds into an awesome track. Check it out for yourself, and be sure to check Thundercat’s label Brainfeeder for a pre-order.
Keeping on with the great music in the month of May, I’ve got some more great sounds for everyone out there. Even though some of these tracks didn’t come out in May, they are still great for this time of year. The artists featured this time are Cults, Memory Tapes, Unouomedude, Wise Blood, Washed Out and more Salem.
All are great tracks, and you should be aware of all of these talented artists. Show your support any way you can.
Bon Iver announced their newest release a little while back, and have just recently released the great single “Calgary” for download. All you have to do is give your email, and you can download this dreamy track.
I won’t go into the track too much, but I will say that it’s just what you’d want and expect from this amazing group, and especially the leadman, Justin Vernon. The groups sound has developed as well, but I won’t spoil it, listen for yourself.
One of the beat farm’s favourite tracks of the springtime has to be Newvillager’s “Lighthouse”. Aside from having one of the catchiest intrumental melodies, the vocals carry the song to a whole new level. The band recently signed to IAMSOUND and will be releasing some kind of full-length in the near future.
Since the single “Lighthouse” was that good, Narcisse and Nat Evans decided to take a stab at remixing the tracks, and they both have their unique changes. Check out the remixes below as well as the original, and the bright and colourful video for the original.
Teams released a split earlier this year with the UK’s amazing Star Slinger. Since the release of “Teams vs. Star Slinger”, I have hopped on the Teams bandwagon as well. There isn’t much I can say about them other than it’s some awesome stuff. Check out the new track “Passion Fruit Heart” below.
I must say, it’s been quite a while since we’ve heard anything new from Alexisonfire’s Dallas Green. He has recently released two tracks on his website from his upcoming effort “Little Hell” which is going to be available on June 7th via Vagrant.
The first of the two tracks “Northern Wind” has the same easy going City and Colour feel that you’re used to, all backed by Dallas’ great harmonies. This track doesn’t stand out as much as some of his older tracks, but it certainly has a great feel to it. The second of the two tracks, “Fragile Bird” takes the City and Colour regime a little further. With more backing from other instruments, as well as a decent amount of distortion on guitars, this song is a definate step in a new direction, which intrigues me after the first track.
Both are great songs, but will the full album sound like the single “Fragile Bird”? I guess we’ll have to wait and see. Listen to the two tracks below.
Blackbird Blackbird has released another great track for us today. It’s another groovy and happy tune for the spring weather. I won’t go too much into the track, since the song speaks for itself. Give it a listen and download below.
Avi Buffalo’s leadman Zahner Isenberg has recently recorded a few videos of new material which is interesting to say the least. All of the music is pretty beautiful, other than a few missed notes but the group hasn’t released any news about a new album. I must say, the facepaint and masks are an odd touch, but if its what causes this creativity in the songs, I can dig it. Check them out for yourself.
Toronto’s always good Fucked Up have released another free Mp3 for everyone titled “Queen of Hearts”. After releasing the great singles “The Other Shoe” and “A Little Death” which are also to be featured on their next full length, this one is no different. Following the same great groove that Fucked Up is so good at defining and delivering.
You can preorder the Full length LP, which also comes with four 7” singles as well, I’ll certainly be grabbing myself one, you should too. Listen and download the track below thanks to One Thirty BPM.
News has just leaked of a new partnership between Big Boi and the members of Modest Mouse. Big Boi has signed on to produce the groups album with them, and had this to say about it:
“I’ve been a fan of the band for a minute. … We’re all musicians and producers and artists, and it’s just like a big-ass brainstorm, a brain-stormin’, tsunami, typhoon, tectonic-plates-movin’ kind of thing. We do all types of music, so to get the chance to jam with a jammin’-ass band, I knew it was going to be cool. We had a vibe too. We made a couple of records that are just jamming. It’s a hodgepodge of funkiness.”
This should be interesting to say the least, I’ll certainly keep everyone posted on this new album.
Ernest Greene, a.k.a Washed Out has to be one of my favourite producers at the moment. Being credited as one of the starters of Chillwave, he is certainly turning heads around the world with his amazing use of simplicity to still create intriquite sounds.
He has just released this brand new Mp3, which is going to be the album opener for “Within and Without”, which is coming out July 12 via Sub Pop
Another fresh track from OFWGKTA’s leader, Tyler, The Creator. This one is titled “Tron Cat”, and is absolutely filled with those fun-loving lyrics as always. Goblin is set to hit shelves on May 10th via XL Recordings
I can’t say that I know a whole lot about New York’s Curl Up, but he released one hell of a track a few days back titled “Good Looks”. It’s a tune filled with pumping bass, great sampling and a bashing beat. I have a feeling we’ll be hearing more from this great producer really soon. For now, just give this song a listen and download.
San Francisco’s Charlie Yin has been creating great electronic tunes under the Robot Science moniker for about 3 years now, and has recently started up a side project titled Giraffage. What separates the two sounds are Yin’s use of sampling and heavier mastering. Since I has been interested in Robot Science for a couple years now, Giraffage was a no-brainer
The single, “A Bird In Hand” is a song that holds a great choppy rhythm and is filled with samples, cuts and effects that Giraffage has managed to master. Listen to the single below, and go to GIRAFFAGE’S BANDCAMP to download the album for any amount of your choosing.
And for anyone who hasn’t heard Charlie Yin’s other project Robot Science, the track “Fog” from his latest release is available below for listen.
