Napolian is an artist that recently signed to Software, which is owned by Joel Ford and Dan Lopatin. As soon as the track begins I am already getting Ford & Lopatin vibes from it, so Napolian is a good addition to the Software roster.
The only track to come from this LA producer is the track “My Refuge”, which you can buy on a 12” right HERE. It features some pretty glammed synths dripping with that retro aesthetic that Com Truise utilizes so much. Hopefully we hear more from this guy in the future, but check out “My Refuge” for now.
If by now you don’t know The Books and their odd brand of indie pop-jams, then maybe Zammuto might be too much for you. A couple members from The Books have come together to create Zammuto, who according to Pitchfork have one of the best new songs of 2012.
I won’t try to explain this track since it would likely take all night, but give “F U C-3PO” a listen below, and be ready for a full length from these guys in early April.
Slava is a producer coming out of Brooklyn, and is not to be confused with Chi-Town’s Paul Salva, who also makes beats. Oddly enough, Slava was born in Chicago, but is in Brooklyn now.
Anyways, this guy has recently been picked up by Mexican Summer and Software, and holsters a pretty promising style with his newest track “I’ve Got Feelings Too”. Starting with the sample by itself, the song evolves into a gentle, kick-driven atmosphere that carries until the 5 minute mark.
His first EP Soft Control is set for a February 7th release, head over to Mexican Summer or Software to pre-order
After having such a solid year last year despite the loss of a member, Battles has come back in 2012 with a remix album rightfully titled Dross Glop. It is going to feature a slew of tracks from Gloss Drop remixed by various artists, and the first installation are remixes by The Field and Gui Boratto. Check them out below.
A new track from the one and only Andrew Bird, this jam is filled with Bird’s typical guitar grooves and a solid beat to carry the tune. Of all artists that add whistling to songs, I’d say Bird does it best too. Check out his new single “Eyeoneye” below, and be sure to grab a copy of his newest album Break It Yourself on March 6th when it drops via Mom + Pop.
Warp Records is another company that is consistently getting better, and now they have released word of a new album from Clark, a.k.a Chris Clark of the UK. He makes some pretty calm beats drenched in effects and grooves which makes for some good listening. His stuff even reminds me a little of Com Truise’s full length from last year Galactic Melt (Not to mention the title of the song resembling it as well), which I loved quite a bit
Check out the new single “Com Touch” below, and be sure to grab yourself a copy over at Warp Records if you like, the album is out April 2nd/3rd in America/UK
You can also download the track for the exchange of an email below
Hard Mix just released a new mp3 on his Soundcloud page, a sleek and gentle jam that perfectly follows his mixtape from last year. He isn’t exactly working on a new album at the moment, but he is learning to play the Cello, so I think good things will be coming in the future. Check out his new track “I’ve Got Them” below.
Warp Records had put Gonjasufi’s newest full length Mu.zz.le up for full stream for the people at Fader. This is definately one of my most anticipated releases for 2012 since Gonjasufi is yet to disappoint.
Swedish Pop producer Miike Snow released a new song earlier today titled “Paddling Out”. This track, along with his other recent mp3 “Devil’s Work” aren’t going to be on any future release, but at least we have some to material to listen to from this great artist. Give “Paddling Out” a listen below.
Das Racist member and MC Himanshu Suri (or Heems) just released a new mixtape for free on the internet. The entire tape was produced by Mike Finito and it features some guest verses from Danny Brown, Mr. Muthafuckin’ eXquire, El-P, Kool-AD, Action Bronson, Lakutis and many more.
Before heading out on a big European tour with Salva, LA beatmaker Shlohmo took a trip to Daytrotter’s studio to do a live set. It was a short, but very sweet 15 minute set that featured some tracks off of his newest LP Bad Vibes, he even added in some previously unheard sounds and effects.
I highly recommend you join over at Daytrotter, since its only $2 a month and you can hear amazing live sets like this.
I know everyone doesn’t have the money to join, so you can listen and download the mix below.
ASAP Rocky is another name that is going to see a lot of action this year. After gaining a lot of attention last year 2012 will be a good year for the ASAP crew as well. ASAP recently rapped on a Schoolboy Q track which is featured on Schoolboy’s new album Habits & Contradictions, which is a great jam. Check it out for yourself below, and pick up Habits and Contradictions HERE
Producer and Beatmaker araabMUSIK has been in the game for quite a while now, and received some well deserved praise for his mixtape last year, Electronic Dream. He just released a new mp3 which is to be featured on an instrumental mixtape coming out later this month (the 31st) titled Instrumental University. The songs featured on the tape were beats that he made for many different rappers, so this thing will probably be juicy. Check out the first single “Rubberband Stacks” below.
Azealia Banks comes back with a new track, likely to be featured on a full length later this year. The track was produced by the one and only Machinedrum, who uses an Aaliyah vocal sample. Azealia doesn’t seem to be slowing down, so 2012 might just be her year. Check out the track below.
Coincidentally, today would have been Aaliyah’s 33rd birthday. RIP.
Top Girls, aka Evan Adams already caught my eye late last year with his We Will Rise EP which he streamed on his Bandcamp page. He has already released word of a new EP titled After Life along with this single “It’s Over”. Adams soft voice carries this track into a place of pure bliss, and it is getting me very stoked for the new EP.
Another new sound from the newest artist on Tri-Angle Records, Vessel. This one is called “Metle”, and is just as intriguing in its sounds as yesterdays “Scarletta”. I’ll be sure to post any new info on a release from this guy, since the two songs we’ve heard are promising. This song carries a pretty strong Nico Jaar kind of vibe, and I dig that very much. Check out “Metle” yourself below.
Blackbird Blackbird comes back with his first track of 2012, “New Leaf”. It’s another great, whistful jam to shine some nicer light on the weather we’re getting outside. No news of a full release from Blackbird Blackbird has been released, so this track will have to do for the time being. Listen to “New Leaf” below
One label that has put out constant great releases, especially in 2011 was Tri-Angle Records. They just announced their newest signed artist via Facebook, 22 year old UK producer under the alias of Vessel. Much like Tri-Angle’s other artists, Vessel utilizes some very soft and dreary sounds to make some really great, entrancing music. No word of a specific release has been released, but get stoked for anything by this guy in 2012.
Shlohmo just released a great new remix today for Lianne La Havas single “Forget”. He does his usual chopping and screwing of samples along with a great beat to carry the track. Lets hope that Shlohmo gets the credit he so deserves this year.
A brand new single from one of my favourite producers of last year, LA’s Henry Laufer aka. Shlohmo. “wen uuu” is to be featured on an upcoming EP from the artist titled Vacation, which will be out on Friends of Friends on February 7th.
Gauntlet Hair gained quite a lot of attention last year with their great self-titled full length and have already brewed a couple new tracks for a 7” EP. “My Christ” is on the A-Side of the 7” (and was featured on their full length) and there are two songs on the B-Side, “Need To Retire” and “Minimal Armageddon”.
Listen to the track below and head over to Dead Oceans to order yourself one!
